(Beijing, February 25) The six-day "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 16th FINA Diving World Cup concluded at the National Aquatics Center on February 24, with host China winning seven of the eight titles on offer. Among China's elite divers, 2004 Olympic champion Guo Jingjing lost to teammate Wu Minxia in the women's 3m springboard finals, after an invariably poor execution of 107C which earned her the lowest scores of all throughout the event including the preliminaries, semifinals and finals.
According to Zhou Jihong, manager of the Chinese national diving team, Guo suffered the setback for failing to control the rhythm of her performance on the board in this most difficult dive in the women's event. She cited the example of Mu Minxia making the same mistake during the national Olympic selective trials held in Jinan last January.
