German Klein earns men's 10m platform gold

(Beijing, February 24) In the men's 10m platform finals of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 16th FINA Diving World Cup held at the National Aquatics Center this evening, Sascha Klein of Germany scored 566.85 to claim the title, 23.45 more than China's Zhou Luxin. Aemerican David Boudia took the bronze with 526.65 while Lin Yue of China finished fourth.

Twelve divers entered the final stage as German Sascha Klein showed a good form by leading the first round with 91.20 on a 407C dive. Britain's Thomas Daley came second with 90.10 on 5253B. China's Zhou Luxin and his teammate Lin Yue both got 81.00 on 107B to share the fourth place.

Zhou moved up to second after making 91.80 on 5253B in the second round while the in-style Klein earned 98.00 on 109C to keep ahead. Lin still ranked fourth.

In the third round, Zhou's triple somersaults piked (626B) with a degree of difficulty of 3.5 obtained five 10s from seven judges and went up to first, 2.85 more than Klein, who collected 85.75 on the same dive. Lin moved to third by scoring 91.80 on 6245D.

Klein regained his lead in the fourth round via a 207B dive which got 91.80. Zhou trailed by 4.35, but he narrowed the gap to 0.15 in the fifth round after contributing a 407C that gained 96.00, including five 10s again. David Boudia got 100.80 on 207B to sit in fourth.

In the last round, Sascha Klein pulled off the highest score of the night with his 2 1/2 somersaults 2 1/2 twists piked (5255B), earning 108.30 points to win the title. China's Zhou settled for second after making 85.00 on 307C and his compatriot Lin Yue got 76.00 to place fourth.

Matthew Mitcham of Australia, Juan Guillermo Uran Salazar Colombia and Thomas Daley of Britain ranked fifth, sixth and seventh respectively.
