Day 6 preview: Chinese remain favourites

(Beijing, 24 February) - China's dream team can now aim to scoop all eight gold medals on offer at the World Cup when diving superstar, Guo Jingjing(CHN) and her teammate, Wu Minxia (CHN) vie for the title in women's 3m springboard synchro while platform expert, Zhou Luxin (CHN) and Lin Yue (CHN) battle for victory in the men's 10m platform.

Women's 3m springboard synchro preliminaries

Favourites:

Chinese duo Guo Jingjing (CHN) and Wu Minxia (CHN) are the hot favourites inthis event. Regaining world champions, Guo and Wu have a number of medals in their cillections, including gold at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

Julia Pakhalina (RUS) and Anastasia Pozdnyakova (RUS) stood on the medal podium in this event during all legs of the World Series in 2007 (second at Sheffield and Nanjing, third at Mexico City). They also won gold in the 2007 Grand Prix in Fort Lauderdale, USA.

Bythe Michaela Munro Hartley and Melanie Rinaldi (CAN) came third in this event at me 2008 Grand Prix in Madrid, Spain. Hartley is currently ranked world No.3 In the individual women's 3m springboard.

19 teams will participate in this event with the top 12 teams qualifying for the finals.

Men's 10m platform semifinals

Favourites:

Zhou Luxin and Lin Yue are favourites in this event. They are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the world respectively in this event. Zhou won gold at the 2006 World Cup in Changshu, China and silver at the 2007 World Championships in Melbourne, Australia. Lin has already secured his share of the gold medals at this World Cup for capturing the men's 10m platform synchro title with partner Huo Liang (CHN) on Friday.

Matthew Mitcham (AUS) has dived excellently with a cavalcade of no splash performance throughout the preliminaries. Mitcham snatched all individual titles at the 2008 Australian Open Championships in Adelalde this January and came fourth in the men's 10m platform at the 2007 Grand prix in Zhuhai, China.

German diver, Sascha Klein finished fourth in the premilinaries. Klein has already claimed silver in the men's 10m platform synchro with partner Patrick Hausding on Friday. The German diver came fourth inthis event at the 2007 Grand Prix in Rome, Italy.

18 divers will compete in this event with the top 12 going through to the finals.
