

(Beijing, February 23) China's Wu Minxia upset her teammate Guo Jingjing by 3.60 points to grab the gold of the women's 3m springboard of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 16th FINA Diving World Cup held this evening at the National Aquatics Center.
Among the 12 finalists, Wu Minxia set up an early lead in the first round as she gained 79.50 on a 405B dive. Guo Jingjing got 76.50 on 205B while Canadian Blythe Michaela Hartley and Australian Sharleen Stratton shared the third place with the identical score of 75.00.
Guo outscored Wu in the second round, but the latter still led by 0.5. Blythe Michaela Hartley stood third.
In the third round, Guo and Wu performed the same dive of 107B with degree of difficulty 3.1, collecting 69.75 and 79.05 respectively. Laura Sanchez of Mexico moved up to third.
Guo Jingjing gained 81.00, the highest mark in the finals, on a forward 2.5 somersaults with 1 twist piked, narrowing the gap with Wu Minxia to 6.60. Wu finished 78.00 on 305B with Laura Sanchez falling 30.50 behind in total.
79.50 was Guo Jingjing's last-round score on a 405B and Wu Minxia had to get at least 73.00 to secure the gold medal. As the last diver in the final round, Wu chose a 205B. She stepped onto the board, took off and completed the flight and the entry for a score of 76.50 to take the title. The bronze went to Sharleen Stratton, who made 73.50 on a 5152B.
American Christina Loukas, Mexican Laura Sanchez and Canadian Blythe Michaela Hartley ranked fourth to sixth respectively.
