The Chinese duo wowed the local crowd which packed the stands with a breathtaking performance including a number of perfects 10s from the seven judges in the first half of the competition. However they both made a splash on entry in their fifth dive, a reverse three and a half somersaults in tuck position (DD3.4). They clinched the title by seizing the moment on their final and most difficult dive, a back two and a half somersaults with two and a half twist in pike position (DD 3.8), scoring a massive 99.18points.

Four-time world champion in this event, Guo made a big mistake on entry in the third round, a forward three and a half somersaults in pike position (DD 3.1), collecting two 4.5s out of 1O and dropping down to eighth. She came back strongly with an excellent performance in the last round, an inward two and a half somersaults in pike position (DD 3.0), which nudged her up three ranks.
Her teammate, Wu Minxia stood at the top of the ladder after the third round and kept the lead until the end with a flawless performance. She is seeded first in the semifinals with a total score of 366.00 points.
