China seizes 5th gold in men's 10m synchro

(Beijing, February 22) Host China won its fifth gold at the "Good Luck Beijing" 16th FINA Diving World Cup after Lin Yue and Huo Liang scored 482.46 to take the men's 10m platform synchro title at the National Aquatics Center this evening. The silver and bronze went to two Germany's Patrick Hausding/Sascha Klein (466.74) and Britain's Blake Aldridge/Thomas Daley (446.07) respectively.

The Chinese duo led the first two rounds with a score of 115.80, followed by Mathew Helm/Robert Newbery of Australia and Blake Aldridge/Thomas Daley of Britain, both in the second spot trailing by 8.4 points.

Lin/Huo produced 91.80 on a 5253B dive in the third round while Thomas Finchum/David Boudia of the United States collected the same score as Germans Patrick Hausding/Sascha Klein did, climbing to second and third tandem.

The inward 3½ somersault performed by the Chinese pair was awarded 94.08, including five 10s from nine judges. Americans Thomas Finchum/David Boudia fell 22.68 points behind to sit in second and the German duo had 85.44 on a 407C to keep their third place.

In the fifth round, Patrick Hausding/Sascha Klein moved up to second by earning 91.80 on a 307C dive. The Chinese got 81.60 on the same flight and still stood atop the group. Blake Aldridge/Thomas Daley went up to third on a dive worth of 82.62 points.

The decisive round saw Lin Yue/Huo Liang tying with Patrick Hausding/Sascha Klein for the highest score of 99.18 on 5255B with a degree of difficulty of 3.0. Konstantin Khanbekov/Oleg Vikulov of Russia made 94.62 on the same dive but had to settle for fourth with a six-dive total of 441.90.

The fifth to eighth went to Australia, USA, Columbia and Belarus respectively.
