(Beijing, 22 Feb.) - Comments from Robert Newbery (AUS) after the men's synchro 10m plafform preliminaries at the National Aquatics Center.
Robert Newbery (AUS)
On his performance:
"We were not sharp enough and made a few mistakes during our performance, such as our synchronization being off."
"(Until the finals tonight) I am saving my engine and will try to improve my performance in the finals."
On the last dive (Back two and a half somersault with two and a half twist in pike position, DD 3.8):
"Matthew has a injury and it probably affected his performance."
On his decision to make a comeback:|
"Around Melbourne 2007, I knew that I could still dive. I also thought that Beijing 2008 would be my last chance to go to the Olympic Games and that I would regret it if I didn't come back and try."
On his training for Beijing 2008:
"I am now working with people with spinal problems. I also look after my two kids. I have to divide my time between work and family, and it is difficult to find time to train now."
"I practise for both individual and synchro in 3m springboard and 10m platform, but I am not young enough. So it is still uncertain (whether he will compete in all disciplines at the Olympic Games should he qualify)."
